Field Notes

Nathaniel Loomis gambrel/cape dates from 1718. Main barn is square rule post and beam construction with several attached and separate sheds. There were up to 22 Jersey cows in 1940s and 1950s, when the cultivation was done by work horses. Property was also a kennel for field trial dogs in 1940s to the 1960s, and cauliflower, tomatoes and strawberries were grown for the Hartford Regional Market. Morgan horses have been raised since 1963. Barn framing is largely original, later re-sided and with metal roof.
