Historic Significance
The barn appears to be an example of a field or hay barn. These barns were located in the middle of fields, rather than close to a house, so that hay could be easily be brought to them when harvested. The hay would then be moved to the cow barns once the ground was covered with snow, making transportation easier. The building was tranfered to the state when the Aquarion Water Company sold some of its holdings in 2002.
