Historic Significance

Architectural description:

This is a 1 – story gable-entry semi-subterranean barn with a gable-roof addition on its west gable-side. The ridge line of the barn runs east-west perpendicular to the road. The main façade of the barn is the west gable-side of the gable-roof addition with the main entrance at the center through an overhead garage door and a window centered in the gable attic. Both the gable attics of the west gable-façade of the gable-roof addition and the west gable-side of the main barn have vinyl siding while the rest of the façade has cement-plastered masonry wall. The north eave-side of the gable-roof addition has an entrance at the center through a hinged pass-through door.  The grade level on either side of the main façade rises towards the east, covering the eave-sides of the main barn.
The barn and the gable-roof addition have cement plastered masonry walls with vinyl siding on the gable attics and asphalt shingle roofing.

Historical significance:

A frost-free subterranean room for storing vegetables through the winter, located in a barn basement or in a free-standing structure consisting of a below-grade cellar with roof.
