Field Notes

The Dibble family farmed at this location from 1770 until the 1970s. The age of the barn is unknown but believed to be over 100 years old. It is a small structure that had been used for cows with 3 stanchions and an excrement trough. The 2 large end doors open back to back, one to let the farmer in to feed & the other to let the animals out to pasture. It is a New England style with vertical siding & an asphalt shingle roof. The pond located on the property was used to cut ice until the 1940s. The octagonal structure was used as a brooder for chickens with a chimney & a warming stove. The property is now located in a rural residential section & the barn, which sits on a bend in the road, was struck by a car in the winter. The picture of the barn in winter was provided by Linda Kinsella.
