Field Notes

House built 1884; barn assumed same year. English three bay barn; Field stone foundation, wood vertical siding. Roof asphalt shingle, Structure: wood frame? House and barn pending historic property designation. Historically, the barn had horses and pigs in the barn. Currently, the barn is used for storage, a garage and artist studio. Frank Sanford owned a lumber and hardware business. Frank married Marion Hawley and joined his brother-in-law, C.R. Hawley, in founding Sanford and Hawley Lumber and Building Materials Company which is still in operation today. It is the oldest business in Farmington owned by the same family and at the same location.
