Owner states, that the farm was a generally thriving working dairy farm through the 1930s. The 1876 home that still stands replaced an earlier home built in approximately 1750. Large granite block foundation near house yields lingering evidence of the massive structure that must have majestically stood on this hill (with views in the distance of Fisher's Island and Long Island Sound beyond) prior to the 1938 hurricane. Owner states that family lore has it that farm had about 100 cows, all on main level, with horses and buggies, etc. below, with hay in the loft on top. There were two silos behind this barn. Foundations remain. Early photos of this barn remain in the family's possession. Existing outbuildings include: 1. Shingled chicken coop/pen, chickens within. 2. Weathered board and batten barn on concrete foundation. Present use unknown. 3. Garage, on an old granite foundation, which suggests a different use at an earlier period in time. 4. Wellhouse, in close proximity to silo foundations connected with large barn foundation. Owner states that this well served both the farm and the house and is in use today. 5. Stone foundation of former barn with view of historic home in the background. 6.-10. Stone foundation of massive barn and silo foundations of Gallup Hill Farm. The driveway to this farmstead was the former route of Gallup Hill Rd., and was known as Gallup Hill Overlook, with views of Long Island Sound. The public road has been relocated to avoid the hill.
