Field Notes

Circa 1805 English style barn in the rear of what was a later addition that was modified to living quarters but never completed inside. Original barn is pegged post & beam construction with vertical siding and asphalt roof shingles. Two hinged doors were added to the front side of the barn to be used as a garage. On this property sits the only known remaining Ice House in Monroe. The front of the Ice House has over and under doors. Ice was stacked through the lower door and until the bottom was stacked full then the upper door was opened and ice could be stacked up to the roof level. House built with dowry of Lucy Shelton when she married Agur Beardsley (HRI).
