This large gabled roof barn is visible from the road. It is part of a large active agricultural commercial farm/fruit stand of 64 acres. The barn is presently being used for storage. Historically the barn was used for dairy, poultry (Pheasants/peacocks,chickens), apples. It is not accessible to the public. The house on the farm dates to the 18th Century (Albert Norton house). The barn is "L" shaped with a east "wing" extending from the Northeast corner. The wing extends out from the east elevation of the main section 3'-10" from the north end of the barn creating a jog. The barn measures 75'on the west elevation, 27'on the south elevation, 50'on the east elevation to east wing, 22.5'on the east elevation of the east wing, 56' on the north elevation including 29' of the east wing. The barn is made up of several additions. The east wing may be the original post&beam English-style barn. But perhaps moved and attached later to the main section. The main section has sections of post&beam near the south end only with the better part being wood framing. The exterior is vertical wood siding on a full basement on all sections. The foundation is stone with a large door on the basement level of the west elevation. The foundation is collapsing sections on the east elevations of both the main section and the east wing(also on its' north side here). The roof is asphalt. There are no gutters. The height of the east elevation is appox.15' high. Some early owners were the Fonda, Wartrous and Norton families. The farm was once known as the East Holms Farm. The barn is one of the largest in town. South Kensington is considered to be the more "rural" area of Berlin. The area is zoned two acre with well/septic. The house dates to 1800. Laviana Farm. For many years the Laviana family sold produce and hanging flower baskets. They still sell cut your own Christmas trees.
