The original use of this barn was to house stage coach horses. When coaches were traveling on Litchfield Turnpike (running from New Haven to Litchfield), the drivers could exchanged their tired horses at such stations as this. Photo 3 is of the watering trough that was cared for by the Perkins family for $3/year (according to the book Bethany's Old Houses and Community Buildings).
