Field Notes

We have a "Bank barn" on our property that was built in 1878 by Harvey P Allen. The property dates back to the Deacon Willcockson family whose original home, that is adjacent to the barn, built in 1723 still stands. Mr Allen was a family descendant and the property originally went from Hopmeadow street to Bushy Hill road. The barn was part of an active nursery from 1935 - 1979. There is an entrance on the upper west side and three openings on the lower south side of the barn. The roof, old broken slate, and some other portions were renovated in 2006. The original hand cut ceiling and wall beams remain in place.
