From the owner: Picture of the two Curtiss Barns currently used in the operation of City Line Florist. The smaller of the two Curtiss barns was built between 1696 & 1721. In 1696, the Farm Highway (Route 108) was officially laid out by the Stratford Selectmen. They used Zachariah Curtiss, his "land", as a reference point in describing the width of the highway to this area on the south side of Misha Hill. In 1721, Zachariah Curtiss gifted his entire farm to his son Zachariah II to include land on both sides of the highway. The land on the west side contained a house & the land on the east side contained a "barn". It's a small 1 1/2 story oak post & beam barn that serves in the operation of the florist today. The larger barn, a classic 2 & 1/2 story post & beam structure, was constructed after 1776 & before 1840. The larger barn houses the florist business as well. Both barns were restored in the early 1970's when City Line Florist bought the business from Clarence Cooper who ran a florist business there after WWI to the early 1970s. The Cooper's bought the farm from the Curtiss family in the late 1800s.
